Jeannette's parents Rose Mary and Rex Walls lived in a world that was really poor they had three kids the oldest was Lori, Jeannette, Brian and the youngest of the Walls kids Maureen. The beginning of the book is when Jeannette finds her mom sneaking around in a dumpster trying to find food to eat, the story goes deeper into her childhood past and that she was raised in poor conditions and her parents didn't have any money. Her dad was an alcoholic her mother only cared about was her painting and not getting a job, Jeannette was only 3 when she started looking after herself cooking food etc. But when she was cooking hot dogs when her parents were not there she had a server burn and she had to go to the hospital, but her father didn't appreciate people in the hospital so he stole his kid from the hospital and the whole family went and moved from Arizona.
